Professor Steve Blandford (University of South Wales) has published the first book length study of Jimmy McGovern, one Britain’s leading television writers.

The book links McGovern’s work to key changes in British television drama commissioning during the last thirty years. It extensively examines some of McGovern’s most influential work, including BrooksideCrackerThe LakesHillsboroughand The Street.

The publishers said: "McGovern’s versatility has meant that his work range from soap opera to crime series, studio based single drama to art house features for theatrical release. The book therefore acts partly as a survey of the way that drama for the small screen has mutated and changed over a key period in its history.”

Jimmy McGovern is published by Manchester University Press, priced at £60 in hardback. It forms part of the Television Series, edited by Jonathan Bignell and Steven Peacock.
